The EGR valve is responsible for reducing the high temperatures in the combustion chamber to, at the same time, reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx). It is, therefore, an element closely related to the ecology and the catalyst.
This is achieved by recirculating the exhaust gases to the intake. That is, reintroduce the combustion smoke of the engine at a minimum percentage (5% -15) in the cylinders. When less air enters with oxygen, the explosion is less and less toxic gases are generated. The EGR valve opens or closes depending on the data collected from the motor and the acceleration through several sensors. These pass to the ECU module, which analyzes them to make the EGR valve open or close.
The EGR valve is placed between the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold; It is the element of union of both elements. All cars have been used since 1996 by European regulations.
The most common failures of the EGR valve.
An EGR valve that does not work as it should, can cause a series of faults in the engine and other parts, such as in the crankshaft or in the bearings. To circulate to low regimes of engine and in long speeds, harms its operation, since we make that pass through the valve exhaust gases of continuous form, which take particles.
A faulty EGR is usually the result of carbon blockage. We will realize because the car will emit very harmful gases and we will notice loss of power in the engine, jerks and increased consumption.
The failures of the EGR valve do not compromise the safety of the vehicle but the life of the engine and cause that emit more harmful levels of contamination.
Prevent breakdowns in the EGR valve.
The best way to prevent dirt reaching levels that increase this possibility of failure, is to raise the engine speed at low speeds with the engine hot to help you expel the char, improving both performance and consumption.
Tips to prevent breakdowns in the EGR valve:
Make a regular cleaning of the injection system
Use quality motor oil
Replacement instructions:
Before replacing the valve, it is essential to understand the cause of the rupture (or defect) and clean all the ducts to avoid clogging the new valve.
